Proverbs Bible Verses for Women Who Want to Walk in Wisdom
I never really studied the book of Proverbs. I know that it was a book in the Bible…and that it came after Psalms. Shame on me!
So what is this book? Why is it important? How does it help us? I’m so glad you asked!
The book of Proverbs is basically a collection of wisdom from God on how to live well. It teaches us how to make good choices, treat people kindly, speak wisely, and stay close to God. I love that it’s full of short, practical lessons that we can apply to our lives.
And while Proverbs isn’t written for women only, it does speak into womanhood, our influence, our restraint, our voices, our households, our character.
Here are some Proverbs Bible verses for women who are seeking God and want to walk in His wisdom.
Lead with Kindness
†
Proverbs 11:16
“A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.”
In case you haven’t seen the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” be forewarned about spoilers ahead.
No, the movie is not about the Bible. It’s a surreal, multiverse, comedy, drama film if that’s your thing. Anyways… the lead character/wife is going through a lot, including a strained marriage. Just trust me that at the climax of the film, there’s a LOT going on.
Her husband ultimately delivers a simple, yet impactful monologue. “Please be kind, especially when we don't know what's going on.” And these words change everything for all of the tension and complexities within the movie.
I believe we’re so often told to be “unbothered,” “unemotional,” “guarded,” or “hard to impress.” But the Bible speaks differently.
Kindness, real kindness, is a holy discipline. I don’t have to become cold to survive. I don’t need to mirror the culture to be respected. God honors the woman who chooses tenderness with self-control.
Kindness changes rooms and it disarms anger. It reflects Jesus more clearly than almost anything else. And that’s what I want to be known for.
Wisdom Over Foolishness
†
Proverbs 14:1
“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”
This proverb speaks to the contrast of wisdom and foolishness. Why build something only to tear it down?
It makes perfect sense when I think of an actual house. I know that it takes a lot of time, effort, and supplies to build a house. It would be ridiculous to knock it all down.
But this begs the questions…how am I when nobody’s watching? If I say that I am living a life guided by God’s wisdom, but really I am easily consumed by distractions and foolishness, doesn’t that undermine a life rooted in God’s wisdom?
We are all always building something. With our words, our responses, our attitude. Even when we think no one is watching.
I want to be the woman who builds in faith, not destructive with what God has entrusted me to steward.
Strength through Confidence
†
Proverbs 31:25-26
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
I love how this scripture holds beauty and assuredness. It paints a picture of a woman who is steady, not frantic. Grounded, not anxious. And it’s not because she has every detail figured out, but it’s because her security comes from the One who holds her future.
“She can laugh at the days to come.” That’s confidence in God and His eternal kingdom.
This verse challenges me to think about how I carry myself. What covers me, fear or dignity? What do I show to the world, pressure or wisdom? Am I able to laugh at the days ahead or am I bogged with the struggles of this world?
I don’t want to just be strong, I want to be strong and peaceful. Both can exist together with true faith in our loving (and ever patient) God.
What Ultimately Matters
†
Proverbs 31:30
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Charm fades. Popularity is temporary. Beauty changes. But reverence for God endures.
It’s so tempting, but this proverb is a reminder for me not to obsess over the wrong scoreboard. It invites me to define success differently.
Do I get the warm fuzzies when I’m admired or noticed? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t.
When people are in my presence, do they see me, or do they see God?
But I want to be the kind of woman whose strength doesn’t come from admiration, but for my love and adoration for God.
