Bible Verses About Beauty for Women: What God Really Says About You
I recently hopped on Pinterest and searched for the term “beauty for women.” I’m sure you can guess what I saw.
I was inundated with pins and ads for face tanning serum, lipsticks, lotions, body butters, and tips on how to get glowing skin. I can go on and on.
And all of the women looked absolutely perfect! Perfect eyebrows, flawless skin, gorgeous makeup, crisp white teeth. Some of them looked so “perfect” that I’m pretty sure they weren’t actually real people…
I’m not knocking makeup, I wear it (when I remember to). I take care of my teeth. And I like to get my hair done. But there’s no way I can compete with these images of perfection because I’ll never measure up.
So I asked myself, what does God really think about beauty? What does He say about me as a woman? Not what social media says, but what does He say?
If you’re thinking it has nothing to do with acne removal, then you’re spot on. Ha, see what I did there?
The Bible has a lot to say about beauty, and it gives me a different lens through which to see myself.
Clothed in Strength and Dignity
†
Proverbs 31:25
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
This verse paints such a beautiful picture, doesn't it?
When I think about getting dressed in the morning, I'm usually thinking about what shirt to wear or whether my jeans still fit (oof). But this verse talks about being clothed in something entirely different. Strength and dignity.
No, it’s not something you can order online. It’s something that comes from within. It's the way you carry yourself, the confidence you have in who you are, and the assurance that comes from knowing your true identity is founded in something solid.
I love that she can "laugh at the days to come." She's not anxious about the future, like I always am. She's not wringing her hands wondering if she'll be enough or if things will work out. She has this peace, a strength that allows her to face whatever comes with confidence.
Gosh, that's the kind of woman I want to be.
Despite what Pinterest or social media in general tells us, that kind of strength and dignity doesn't come from having a perfect life or looking a certain way.
It comes from walking closely with God. It comes from knowing that He's got you, that He's for you, that He's working all things together for your good.
I can walk into a room with my head held high…not because I think I'm better than anyone else, but because I know whose I am. That's what it means to be clothed in strength and dignity. And that's far more beautiful than any outfit I could ever put together.
The Unfading Beauty
†
1 Peter 3:3-4
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”
I certainly don’t see this verse on pretty mugs and cute t-shirts!
Does it mean that I can't wear jewelry or do my hair? I don't think that's what it's saying at all.
I think what Peter is getting at is this, don't let those things be the source of your beauty. Don't let your worth be tied up in how you look on the outside. Again, I don’t think Instagram would be too happy about this message.
Because the thing is, everything on the outside changes. Our hair grays. Our skin wrinkles. Trends come and go. What's fashionable today won't be fashionable tomorrow.
So if my entire sense of self-worth is based on something that's always changing, I'm setting myself up to always be insecure.
Peter is pointing us toward unfading beauty. A gentle and quiet spirit. Does that mean staying silent or never speaking up? No!
I think it's the inner calm, a peace that stays through the storm, a spirit that's from God.
A Woman Who Fears the Lord
†
Proverbs 31:30
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.”
Let’s come back to Proverbs 31. Society praises charm and beauty.
Those who look good are on the cover of magazines, they have tons of product endorsements, and they’ve become the standard for how we should shop. “Buy the sweater so-and-so was seen wearing while getting coffee.”
I’m not saying there’s anything inherently wrong with this. I do believe it’s important to be composed and to take care of yourself.
But these things aren't the foundation, they won’t really matter in the long run.
A woman who fears the Lord, that's what has lasting value.
That fear is not the kind of fear that I have for creepy crawlies (ugh!). This fear is having a deep reverence and respect for Him. Orienting our lives around who He is. That's the woman this verse honors.
I'm learning that when I pursue God, things start to fall into place. My sense of worth isn't dependent on how I look or how charming I can be, despite how hard I try or will it to be.
I just need to let Him shape me into the woman He created me to be.
A Crown of Beauty
†
Isaiah 62:3
“You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.”
A crown of beauty…royal diadem…in the hand of the Lord. Wow!
Do you know what that means? It means God holds you like something precious, something valuable.
We are cherished, we are treasured. We are held close by the King of the universe!
What does a crown represent? It’s honor, royalty, worth, beauty. And this verse says that we are a crown of beauty. That's how He sees me and that’s how He sees you.
And it's not because of anything we’ve done. There’s no moisturizer or eye cream that we can apply. It's simply because we’re His.
I don't know about you, but I needed that reminder today. That I'm seen, valued, and treasured, not for what I do, but for who I am.
When I remember that I'm a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, I don't have to measure myself against anyone else. I'm already held.
And so are you.

Beauty for All
Real beauty goes far beyond what I see in the mirror. Nowhere in any of these Bible verses does it say it’s having the perfect body or the perfect face or the perfect life.
Real beauty is who we are on the inside. Our character, our spirit, our relationship with God. This beauty lasts! And the amazing thing is, it's available to all of us.
I'm still on this journey. I’d be lying if I said I never have days when I struggle with comparison and insecurity. I still catch myself wishing I looked different.
If you also struggle to see your own beauty, I want you to know, you’re clothed in strength and dignity. You have unfading beauty within you. You’re a crown of beauty in His hand.
