Inspirational and Heartfelt Jesus Quotes to Live By
On any given commercial flight, there’s one thing the flight attendant says that I always hear. No, it’s not “would you like a hot towel?” Although, getting a hot towel on a flight is so incredibly satisfying.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please direct your attention to the flight attendants in the cabin.”
Because they’re giving the pre-flight instructions and doing the safety demonstration. It’s important because this information might save your life in the event of an emergency.
That’s what I think of when I read the words of Jesus. Stop what I’m doing and listen. Pay attention. This is important. This can (and will) save my life.
If you’ve ever opened the Bible and wondered what to focus on, I’d suggest starting with what Jesus said. What did He say? A lot of things!
Below are the words of Jesus, along with the Bible verses, that inspire how we live and that draw our eyes to Him.
Jesus Quotes That Give Me Strength
†
John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
This is a great Bible verse to come back to again and again. Not because life always feels hard, but because it's a solid reminder that I don't have to be thrown off when things feel uncertain.
Jesus isn’t surprised by our hard days. In fact, He told us we’d have them! But He also told us where to find peace, in Him. Whenever I start feeling anxious or overwhelmed, this verse is something to hold onto. He’s already overcome it all.
†
Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
This is like a personal invitation every time I encounter it. There’s something moving about the fact that Jesus doesn't tell us to fix ourselves before showing up.
Can you imagine going to the hair salon, getting your nails done, and picking out a brand new outfit before presenting yourself to Jesus? The imagery seems a little silly, because is it.
I take a nap when I’m tired. Weary is more than it’s time for a nap. To me, weary is defeat, total exhaustion, frustration, dejection, rejection. I’m carrying too much.
He simply says, "Come to me." And the rest He promises is for my soul.
Jesus Quotes That Guide My Everyday Life
†
Matthew 22:37–39
"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
These verses pull things into focus. When I start feeling pulled in a million directions, this is the filter I come back to with basic questions.
Am I loving God? Am I loving His people? Am I loving me?
It sounds simple, yet it’s impactful. These words from Jesus help me reset my priorities when I’m scatterbrained. Love is at the center of everything, not perfection or my performance.
†
Luke 6:31
"Do to others as you would have them do to you."
The Golden Rule. Short, direct, and so simple to apply. Simple doesn’t mean easy though.
This one gets with me in everyday instances. At the store when the line is long and a new cashier arrives and I race to be first.
When I’m driving on the highway and I’ve just been cut off by another driver and I speed up behind him.
When I say something nasty to a loved one because I’m upset. And ALL the other times when I react instead of respond. It’s called a knee-jerk reaction for a reason. It’s like it happens without me even thinking.
Yet I’m challenged to live intentionally and consider how my words or actions land on the other side. It’s more than kindness, it’s integrity.
Jesus Quotes That Keep Me Centered in Faith
†
John 14:6
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
This is one of the seven “I Am” statements of Jesus. This is why I follow Jesus in the first place. There are a lot of messages out there, a lot of nonsense. And I admit, I get sucked in and distracted more than I care to admit.
But when I read these words, I know I’m on solid ground. Jesus isn’t offering a direction to go figure out on my own. He says He is THE way.
†
John 10:27
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
This verse is comforting. Jesus knows me. He speaks, and I can hear Him.
Not audibly, like when I’m on a Zoom call and I’m listening to the presenter. But through His Word, through peace, through the Holy Spirit. When I’m not sure what to do next, this verse prompts me to just stay close, keep listening, and follow Him.
Jesus Quotes That Uplift Me on Hard Days
†
Matthew 5:14
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."
This verse always lifts me up when I feel like I don’t have much to offer. Jesus says we are the light of the world, not because we’ve done everything right, but because He placed light in us.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
