Woman sitting on a sandy path with hands clasped in prayer over an open Bible, wearing a striped shirt and black dress, surrounded by natural greenery.

I know with 100% confidence that the sun will rise tomorrow. And so I will set my alarm clock, get in my morning workout, drink my morning coffee, and then get into the routine for the rest of the day. It’s like clockwork.

Why?

Because I know that tomorrow is a new day and so I plan accordingly.

Now I know tomorrow is a new day because the Earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours and so on and so forth. According to Wikipedia, it’s actually every 23 hours and 56 minutes and 4 seconds.

There are scientists way smarter than me that study all of this, and they have the data to back this up. Astronomy, astrophysics, and such.

But, regardless, I have full faith that tomorrow will be a new day. And I’m going to have my morning coffee.

But what is faith? According to the dictionary, it’s complete trust or confidence in something or in someone. And faith influences our behaviors and the decisions we make.

Even without absolute proof.

As a Christian, I have times where it feels so easy to believe. I'm on cloud nine. I'm singing in the rain.

And I have times where staying strong in my faith takes every ounce of grit I can muster. I’m left asking “why?” It’s a constant cycle.

I can’t offer you perfection or a promise that everything is going to be smooth. I'm still trying to make my own way. Rather, here are five Bible verses that can help you stay strong in your faith.

†

Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This is a bold verse. It’s more than encouragement, it’s a charge from God Himself.

This verse is not asking me to feel strong or brave. It commands me to be strong and courageous… with the full confidence that I’m not doing life alone. Because I can’t go it alone. God goes with me.

Whenever I find myself facing a crossroads or stepping into something new, this is a solid reminder. Strength and courage don’t come from having all the answers, they come from knowing who’s walking beside me.

2 Corinthians 5:7

“For we live by faith, not by sight.”

The story of my life is being uncertain. I tend to look at a situation and it seems utterly impossible. And sometimes when I pray, it feels like my prayers are going unanswered. Some days it feels like being stuck in the mud, but the rain keeps coming.

There have been times I’ve wanted clear signs, easy outcomes, and obvious direction. I literally pray for bright, flashing neon signs, like the ones you see in Las Vegas. There it’s an overwhelming experience of “Look here! Come inside! Buy this!” It’s very clear when the casinos want people to do.

But faith has taught me that the absence of clarity doesn’t mean the absence of God. Walking by faith means I must choose trust over proof, even when the details don’t add up yet.

This verse helps me stay focused on what I believe, not just what I see. And as I strengthen this kind of spiritual muscle, I can stop reacting out of fear and start responding with faith. My muscle growth is a work in progress, my friend!

Romans 12:12

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

This one is so practical, it’s almost like a checklist for spiritual toughness.

Step 1. Be joyful in hope. I need to look forward with expectancy instead of dread. I can let hope brighten the edges of my hard days.

Step 2. [Be] patient in affliction. This hits home because patience in hardship doesn’t come naturally to me. But patience doesn’t mean giving up, I need to be patient as God’s plans unfold.

Step 3. [Be] faithful in prayer. I remember participating in a fire drill while at a Bible study. Amidst lists of emergency contacts and Bible study attendees, and trying to identify the closest exists, one of the leaders calmly stated, “Remember, prayer is our first line of defense.”

Yes, it’s that simple. Prayer is more than what I do when things fall apart. It’s how I stay connected to God, day in and day out.

Psalm 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

I live in an area that’s prone to sudden inclement weather. I was out picking up some groceries at a store when all of a sudden, the expected rainfall turned into hurricane-like winds. The power went out in the entire store. Everyone’s cell phones were receiving “shelter in place” notifications. The flash storm caused tons of damage all over city, yet I was safe within the confines of the concrete walls.

God is our refuge. He is our stronghold. Concrete can (and does!) crumble. Homes flood and get washed away. Tragedy strikes. God doesn’t promise a trouble-free life. But He promises to be with me, and strong when I’m not.

There’s security in knowing that I don’t have to figure everything out. I don’t have to be the strong one. We have somewhere safe to cling to, even when nothing feels safe.

Isaiah 40:31

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

I included this verse while discussing our need for perseverance and endurance. On days when I feel emotionally exhausted or spiritually worn down, it points me back to God’s strength, not mine.

There’s something deeply comforting about knowing that I don’t have to manufacture hope or energy out of thin air. I can rest in the truth that when I turn toward God, He fills in the gaps. Waiting on Him is a posture of trust. And trust builds strength.

Not at all. Faith is choosing to trust God in every part of your story, the beautiful parts and the downright awful ones. God doesn't promise a trouble-free life, but Psalm 46:1 promises He is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Final Thoughts on Staying Strong in Your Faith

Notice how none of these verses have any “proof”? There’s no formula or equation when it comes to God. At the same time, staying strong in your faith isn’t about never struggling.

Rather faith is choosing to trust God in every part of your story. When it’s beautiful and perfect. And when it’s downright awful. Faith is a daily choice, one that’s always worth making.
