How to Find Christian Blog Post Ideas When You Need Inspiration
I have a confession to make…
I'm not a pastor. I don't have a theology degree. I haven't even read the entire Bible!
And so I thought that this all disqualified me from writing about faith online.
But here's what I've found. When I blog about Christianity, it’s not because I have all the answers. Because I don’t!
But I do have an open heart and a willingness to learn. Every post I write is an opportunity for me to dig deeper into Scripture, wrestle with hard questions, and share what God is teaching me.
I write as a fellow traveler on this journey. And I love it!
So if you've ever held back from blogging about faith because you don't think you’re qualified, I want you to know that your perspective matters.
Now, let's talk about the practical side of things. Because even when you love what you write about, that blank page can still be intimidating. Where do you find new ideas post after post?
Here are the places I turn to when I need inspiration for my content, and I bet they'll work for you too.
1. Sermons
Not all sermons are created equally. Truth. Some Sundays, my mind wanders and I find it hard to pay attention because I’m thinking about what I’m going to eat for lunch.
But then there are those sermons where I find myself squirming uncomfortably because it’s like I’m being singled out. You know the feeling.
That's your next blog post.
It might be…
- The main point that moved me
- A verse or story I want to explore more
- A question it raised for me
- How it applies to something I'm facing
And the beauty of this approach is it’s reinforcing the message of the sermon and shows your readers how to apply biblical truth to daily life.
2. Bible Study and Devotional Time
This one's obvious, but it's also the most authentic source you have.
What passage are you studying? What are you learning? What's confusing you?
Bible study is a goldmine of content, it’s where you literally study the Bible.
And even if it’s not your own Bible study, it might be a nugget that was shared by someone else from their Bible study. That works as well!
3. Other Christian Bloggers and Writers
Reading other Christian bloggers should lead to conversation and inspiration. But please do not copy!
When I come across a post that makes me see something differently, I’m often inspired to add my own take on it. It’s like continuing the discussion.
Maybe someone writes about grace, and it makes you think about how mercy fits into the picture. Or they share a prayer, and you want to add what you've learned about persistence.
Or someone shares a personal story and that moves you to share your own.
Isn’t that how the body of Christ works? We all learn from each other and grow together.
4. Prayer Requests and Answers
Your prayer life is full of stories waiting to be told.
What are you praying for right now? What has God answered recently? What are you waiting on?
Some of my most heartfelt posts have come from prayer. Especially when I’m going through a particularly difficult challenge and I can't see the path forward (this happens a lot), I can write about praising God even when I don’t know what the answer is.
And when God does answer, share that too. Your blog can be a testimony to His faithfulness. Your readers can see what it looks like to bring everything to God and watch Him work.
No, you don't have to share every private detail. But letting others into your prayer life, even in general terms, is a great reminder that God is present and is listening.
5. Questions from Others
Pay attention to the spiritual questions that people around you are asking.
Maybe it’s a friend who's struggling with forgiveness, or a coworker who wonders how you stay hopeful. A neighbor who's curious about your faith but doesn't know how to start. It might even be an anonymous commenter on an online forum.
These questions are great because they're real, it’s what they’re actually thinking about. And if one person has this question, chances are some of your readers are wondering the same thing.
6. Life Circumstances
What you're going through right now is probably what someone else needs to hear about.
Parenting struggles? There's a blog post. Job transition? Blog post. Consumed by money? Blog post. Relationship tension? Blog post.
I don’t mean as a platform to complain, but as an avenue to seek God. Here's what Scripture says about...
Your circumstances give you credibility. When you write about faith during hard times, others listen. At least I think they do!
7. Church Calendar
The church calendar is like ready-made content planning.
Advent. Christmas. Lent. Easter. Pentecost. Each season has rich meaning and practical application.
But instead of rehashing the same old stuff everyone writes, ask yourself:
- What does this season mean to me personally this year?
- What's something most people don't know about this holiday?
- How can I help make it more meaningful to my readers?
- What traditions or practices can deepen our experience of this season?
You can also go beyond the major holidays. Back-to-school days, summer, new year, Mother's Day, or even hard times like loss and grief that don't fit neatly into a calendar but are real for your readers.
8. Tough Questions You're Wrestling With
Don't shy away from the hard stuff.
Why does God allow suffering? How do I know if I'm hearing God's voice? What if I doubt? How do I forgive when it still hurts?
These are the questions that keep people up at night. You can point to Scripture. You can be honest about what you don't understand.
And I can’t stress enough, that even though you don’t have all the answers, you can share your process.
Because guess what? Your readers probably don't have all the answers either. You can invite your readers to wrestle alongside you. It's comforting to know we’re not alone.
9. Books You're Reading
I think it’s great to read. You can draw inspiration from books. Christian books, autobiographies, even fiction, are all packed with blog post ideas.
I’d even expand this to films. I mean I was even inspired to write a blog post after watching Star Wars: A New Hope…
When you read (or watch) something that challenges or inspires you, write about it. Pull out an idea and expand on it. Share how you're applying it. Disagree respectfully if something doesn't sit right with you.

Our Focus on Him
Blogging as a non-expert is a humbling experience for sure. But it keeps me learning and dependent on God.
God is omnipresent. That means He’s everywhere. Yet I continue to be amazed at how He’s present in all aspects of my life. When I focus on Him, I know that I’ll never run out of things to write about.
